Ancient Buddhist Temple in Phan Thiet Binh Thuan

LINH LONG PAGODA

 

Linh Long Tu is an ancient pagoda in Mui Ne located on the hill facing to the sea, from there you will get an excellent view of the ocean, really quiet in the late afternoon. In the grounds, there are several small temples, gardens and a stunning lying Buddha. This is a fascinating attraction that you should visit when coming to Mui Ne.

 

Located at Ong Ho well

 

It is about 22km from Phan Thiet to Mui Ne. Linh Long pagoda on Nghia Trung hill– Ong Ho well (the central Mui Ne) was established by the predecessors from the central provinces in 1811. At first, it was made of bamboo, leaf walls on Thuong Chanh stone slope (Quarter 9 - Mui Ne). In 1851, the pagoda was moved to Nghia Trung hill – Ong Ho well (now) because of severe damage; and rebuilt with stone walls, Yin-yang tiles. In 1968, Linh Long was rebuilt again.

 

According to the legend, Nghia Trung hill – Ong Ho well was a dense forest with wild animals more than 200 years ago. The predecessors saw  tigers drinking at the pond (depth of 5 m, width of 4 m). After drinking, they sat on a large rock. Therefore, the pond was named Ong Ho well.

 

The monk Thich Phap Minh (abbot of the pagoda) said that the well was enough water to satisfy for the pagoda and several people.

 

Buddhist architecture

 

After relocation and rebuilding, the architectural feature is a rectangular – shaped pagoda, including presbytery, the predecessors’ altar,  3 living rooms, lecture room, bedrooms and kitchen. Two ancient wood panels inscribed parallel sentences, many ancient statues are preserved. In addition, there are a wooden bell, chair and table which are inscribed sophisticated patterns, fish – shaped face, tiger – shaped face. In the grounds, there are several small temples and gardens and a stunning lying Buddha. The small gardens depict  the Buddha”s lifetime.
